Lawrence Eugene Speldrich, 73, of Sidney, Montana, passed away on March 19, 2025, at Sidney Health Center in Sidney, Montana surrounded by his loving family.
Lawrence was born on May 15, 1951, in Sikeston, North Dakota, to Eugene and Anne Speldrich. He grew up in a hardworking family, attending Catholic church, serving as an altar boy, helping on the farm, and going to school. In 1969, at the age of 18, he joined the Army National Guard as a combat engineer, providing critical stateside support during the Vietnam War. His dedicated service was cut short after eight years after he suffered a severe back injury while saving another man’s life.
After his military service, Lawrence worked alongside his father, whether repairing equipment, building access roads in the Badlands near Medora, or hauling in the oilfields through Speldrich Trucking. His career took him across various industries, including law enforcement, where he served as a city police officer in Carrington, North Dakota.
Lawrence married his first wife, Vicky, in Sidney, Montana, and together they had two children, Tonya and Trevor. Later, he met the love of his life, Kathleen Lund, in Grassy Butte. Lawrence and Kathy built a life together, raising six children—LeAnn, Lawrence Jr., Leland, Eugene, Robert, and Kayland—primarily in South Heart, North Dakota, and Sidney, Montana.
A true entrepreneur and provider, Lawrence started his own trucking company, K&L Transport, in Dickinson. He transported materials across the country, hauling everything from steel to grain to honeybees, keeping America moving. Later, as his children grew older, he left the road to be home with his family and played a pivotal role in the regional oil industry, helping to move saltwater and oil throughout the area.
Lawrence was known for his strength, resilience, and unwavering dedication to his family. He worked hard, lived fully, and never hesitated to lend a hand to those who needed it. He was a man of integrity, toughness, and kindness, and his legacy will live on through the family he cherished.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Anne Speldrich, and his brother, David Speldrich.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy Speldrich; his children, Trevor Speldrich, Tonya Speldrich, LeAnn Stasiowski, Lawrence Jr. Speldrich, Leland Speldrich, Eugene Speldrich, Robert Speldrich, and Kayland Speldrich; and his brother, Vernon Speldrich.
Lawrence’s journey was one of hard work, love, and sacrifice. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those he carried and touched.
