Lillian “Maxine” Hayward, 101, was born on December 9, 1923 to Murl Hayward and Marian (Hudson) Hayward and peacefully passed away February 17, 2025 at the Bethel Lutheran Nursing Home in Williston. She was the seventh child of the couples 8 children.

Maxine attended the Haydraw School through 8th grade and then she went to high school at the School for the Deaf in Devils Lake, North Dakota, graduating in 1941. She was the only one in her family to attend high school. Maxine lived with her parents until their deaths and then moved to Williston and worked at Bethel Lutheran Home for 15 years.

Maxine had a cheerful personality and loved to tease. She had many hobbies, but she excelled at crocheting. She crocheted a large wall hanging of the Lord’s Supper that she donated to Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Williston. She was a member at the Light of Christ Lutheran Church. After her health started to fail, she moved to Bethel and resided there until her death.

Maxine is preceded in death by her sisters, Ellen McRae, Blanche Rindahl, Alice McIntyre, Nellie Pierce and Eunice Olson; brothers, Gene Hayward and Roland Hayward. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
