Curtis Dale Nelson, 79, of Stanley, ND passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, December 1, 2022 in Stanley, North Dakota.

Curtis was born on September 16, 1943 in Kenmare, North Dakota, and was the fifth son born to Alvin & Ella Nelson. He attended country school through 8th grade and graduated from Kenmare High School in 1961. He attended college in Wahpeton, North Dakota on a football scholarship while studying electronics for one year, then transferred to Briercrest Bible Institute near Moosejaw, Saskatchewan.

Curtis was united in marriage to Bonita Rogne on May 1, 1964 in Powers Lake, North Dakota. They built a home and started their family North of Stanley. They had five children. Together they raised beef cattle and he enjoyed working with horses. Curtis did construction work on the side at times. He was a 4-H leader for several years, and he enjoyed teaching the younger generation important life skills.

His greatest joy was spending time with family and he will be greatly missed.

Curtis is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bonnie; his children, Lance, LaNita (Jay) Thronson, Leighton (Rhonda), Layne (Luann), and LuWanna (Chris) Meiers; sister, Collette Maxwell; 32 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his parents; brothers, Clifford, Carmie, Calvin, Clarence, and Carlton; and daughter-in-law, Jacque.
