Carol Schultz passed away on December 20, 2021 in Rapid City SD after a battle with cancer. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Carol Jean Domsten was born on August 22, 1938 to Rasmus and Anna Domsten on the family farm in Coulee, ND. She was the 3rd oldest out of 7 siblings. She held a very special place in her heart for her siblings, but especially the 4 boys.
She moved to Stanley to go to High School, renting her own house and working jobs such as at the Stanley Hospital and Harold Rowe’s gas station. It was Harold who helped Carol go to college in Minot to get her teaching certificate. She taught in country schools for 3 ½ years before her marriage to Raymond Severance on 9.28.1958. They had three kids; Shelly, Sandra and Rodney. Raymond was killed in 1969 in the oilfield so Carol moved her family to Stanley in 1971. She bought a house and went to work for Prairie Motors. She worked there for 15 years and the people at Prairie Motors were like family to Carol and her kids. She then took a job at Midstate Telephone and worked there for 26 years until she retired.
Carol married Kenneth Schultz on February 17th, 1979 in Stanley. They had a daughter, Lisa. Carol and Kenny lived in Stanley/Berthold area and wintered in Rapid City, SD.
Carol was a mother extraordinaire. She always put her kids first in everything. She was always cooking something but her specialty was scalloped potatoes and SOS. You never left her table hungry and she was always the last one to sit down!
Carol was a champion at washing clothes. We kids always teased her that we would like to get them off before she washed them. We would go to bed with dirty clothes and wake up in the morning with them all done and ready to go!
Carol loved being outdoors at her cabin up near Kenmare. She was always picking up branches and cleaning up the yard! The kids offered to hire someone to help her but her answer was always no!
Carol loved to travel with her family – the trips with her kids were always her favorites! She got to go to Hawaii with her kids and that was a trip she had always wanted to take. We also traveled on an Alaskan cruise which she really enjoyed.
Carol leaves behind her husband Kenny, her children Shelly (Len) Zahradka, Sandra (Butch) Linster, Rodney (Terry) Severance and Lisa (Pete) Ridl, her Grandchildren, Mitch (Angela) Linster, Kyle (Madison) Linster, Blaine (Kyllie) Linster, Sarah Gunderson, Lauren (Nate) Thompson, Blake Arndt and Camden Ridl.
